Tall Ships Challenge Ontario
The TALL SHIPS Challenge Ontario festival in Midland, ON will kick-off with a FREE event Friday August 9th at 7pm downtown with the “ATTACK ON THE PORT OF MIDLAND” as part of the Battle of Georgian Bay War of 1812 re-enactment event.
The Attack on the Port of Midland will be a fictional naval Tall Ship battle escalating into a full-scale marine assault landing of American forces on the shores of Midland Harbour. British troops and allies fight a retreating battle in defense of their community. After a valiant fight, overwhelming American numbers eventually break down the communities’ defenses with the Mayor of Midland being captured and officially surrendering the town. Looting & pillaging of local merchants ensues as the Americans celebrate their victory.
The TALL SHIPS Tour takes place Saturday & Sunday featuring tours on the 4 tall ships at Midland Harbour, including the Pride of Baltimore, The Madelaine, St. Lawrence and the Playfair. The modern Royal Canadian Navy vessel Oriole will also be in port for the weekend. Performances by local francophone and indigenous groups, artisans’ market, buskers, fife and drums, pirate themed air bounces and an interactive theatre presentation will all be part of the “on the dock” activities throughout the weekend as well.
As part of the TALL SHIPS Challenge, Discovery Harbour will also be hosting 4 Tall Ships and host to the Battle of Georgian Bay War of 1812 North American Grand Tactical and Encampment featuring over 800 re-enactors.
